Driving Manoeuvre Guide

Parallel Park 1-2-1
STOP-LOOK-TURN 
(Left-Right-Right-Left) 

Drive along-side the parked car
Keep 1 meter distance away (car door width)
Stop 1 meter in-front of parked vehicle
 (align door mirror in front bumper)
Secure the vehicle (Hand brake and select reverse)
Find the bite – old man’s walking pace
Reverse observation (right to left) last look forward
LOOK IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL 

1) Mirror to mirror (ONE TURN LEFT)
2) Mirror to back wheel (ONE TURN RIGHT)
3) Kerb meeting car – triangle – (ONE TURN RIGHT)
4) Car parallel to kerb and straight (ONE TURN LEFT)
LOOK IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL
Secure the vehicle (Hand brake and select neutral) 

Bay Park
STOP-LOOK-TURN 

Drive along-side, parallel the bay
(roughly 1 to 1.5 metres away from bay)
Select reverse gear and find the bite
 (old man’s walking pace)
Reverse observation (right to left) last look forward then back
LOOK IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL
Line up the door mirror with the bay line
Scan around again (right to left)
Full lock the steering (in the direction of bay)
You will go into the third bay from the line you turned
As you approach almost straight
(11 ‘o’clock) half turn off
As you are straight (12 ‘o’clock) one turn off
Scan all around and park evenly in the bay
Ensure even distance, including front and back

Turn In The Road
STOP-LOOK-TURN 
(Right-Left-Right) 

From parked position (3-6 inches from kerb)
POM (prepare, observe & manoeuvre)
Find the bite – old man’s walking pace
Full lock RIGHT – scan up and down the road
Half turn left (line mirror up with kerb)
Secure the vehicle (parking brake and select reverse)
Find the bite, reverse observation (right to left) last look right
LOOK IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL
Full lock LEFT – (scan both ways when body passes white lines)
Change observation from looking out the back to side window
(line the kerb in the driver-side window)
Secure the vehicle (Hand brake and select first gear)
POM (prepare, observe & manoeuvre)
 Last look left then move off – turning RIGHT 

Left Reverse
STOP-LOOK-TURN 
(Left-Right) 

Drive along-side the kerb (18 inches)
(past the junction to see the kerb in the rear mirror)
Select reverse gear and find the bite
Old man’s walking pace
Reverse observation (right to left), last look forward
LOOK IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL
Every car length distance, scan forward, left mirror and back.
Line up last straight kerb with the left rear wheel (star)
Scan around again (right to left)
One turn of the steering LEFT – see the kerb
As rear wheels cross the give-way lines, scan RIGHT
As the car becomes parallel – see the kerb out the rear
one turn RIGHT
Manoeuvre the car back 3 car lengths into the junction
Scanning forward – mirror – back.
Looking out the back, secure the car and select neutral.
